Kleine Communities gewinnen digitale Souveränität durch eigene Infrastruktur

Why Platform Communities Own Nothing

When a community grows on a large platform, it owns nothing. Members, content, relationships all live in foreign databases, governed by rules you didn't write. An algorithm change, a policy shift, a suspended account, and years of work disappear.

Digital Sovereignty Means Holding the Keys

Digital sovereignty doesn't mean building everything yourself. It means having a choice.

  • Your own domain.
  • An email list not locked to a single channel.
  • A backup of your members.
  • Content in a format you can export.

It's about holding the keys.

Small communities have an advantage here. They don't need to scale to millions. They can use simple, durable tools: a newsletter you own, a self-hosted forum, a shared drive. Technology has become cheap enough that ten members can run their own infrastructure.

The real question remains: who owns the relationship with your members? If the answer is a platform, you have no community. You're a tenant. Sovereignty starts when you hold the key yourself.
